Outlander CAL – square one

Outland_CAL_01

I don’t know about you, but I am thrilled that Outlander is back for season 2. I’ve been rereading the books (currently halfway through book 4, Drums of Autumn, by Diana Gabaldon) to refresh my memory, so I’m eagerly awaiting what unfolds this season.

I decided to start this blanket with one of Jamie’s pet names for Claire, mo nighean donn, which means “my brown-haired lass.”

I’m still pretty new to the C2C stitch, so I’m not sure the blocks are as neat as they can be, but I’m working on it.There are limits to what you can do with this style, of course, but I’m happy with the results. I used the tutorial from The Crochet Crowd for this stitch, and I recommend watching the videos if you haven’t done it before. I also know that I’m very new to this crochet blogging world, but I thought I should share the patterns in case someone else wanted to make the blanket along with me. I’ll be testing the patterns before I share them, but please let me know if you come across any errors.

I’m using black and white for this square, but feel free to use whatever colour combination you prefer. While I’d prefer to use something like Red Heart, it’s really  hard to get locally down here in Australia, as there’s only a limited range available. Since my budget doesn’t extend to shipping from the USA at this point, or the fancier yarns that are available, I’m using Panda Carnival which I find good in value and quality. I will do a separate post about the colours I’m using and suggestions for brands such as Red Heart Super Saver and Vanna’s Choice.

  1. I love the show! I’ve read the first 3 books and stopped reading in the middle of book 4. I read them all in a row and it was a bit too much after a while. I will go back eventually.

    1. They can get intense, as they go through a lot. I find there are some areas I speed up in and others I have to slow down (usually as I’m heading towards a Traumatic Event, of which there are many :P). I’ve read the series through several times and love it more each time around.
